Attendance vs Home Learning Nail Courses

In this post I’ll be discussing the pros and cons of studying for a nail qualification at home compared to attending a nail course at a venue.
The post looks at the pros and cons of home learning then the same for attendance courses, then concludes with an outline of which is the best to choose for you.

At Home – Pros
• There’s no travelling involved.
• Great if you can’t travel or there’s no course near you.
• Convenience – you can watch the DVDs whether you’re at home, on holiday or wherever you are (providing you have a DVD player).
• Permanent – you can watch them ad infinitum.
• You can learn at your own pace – there are no time limits imposed on your learning.

At Home – Cons
• Assessment is anonymous – at the end of the day anyone could have done the nails .
• Assessments can get lost in the post.
• You’re alone. There’s no-one else there to interact with, ask questions or get answers.
• You need discipline to systematically go through your course.
• They’re not interactive, you follow the instructions, generally in a linear manner.
• Will only be at accredited level, you wouldn’t be able to study NVQ type qualifications.
• No real interaction with you tutor.

Attendance – Pros
• Motivation – you get caught up in the atmosphere and vibe giving you more motivation.
• Support – there’s direct support when and where you need it.
• You can build up your relationship with your tutor – you know her and she  knows you.
• If you’re unsure about anything, you can simply ask there and then.

Attendance – Cons
• You have to travel for your training.
• Timing – your bound by the time schedules of your training provider.

So, which should you choose?

Firstly, it depends on the type of qualification you want. If it’s an NVQ you want then you have no choice – it’s an attendance course only.

As for accredited courses. If you’re the type of person who likes to learn at their own pace; unable to travel or have no courses within easy reach and have the discipline to really focus, then a home learning course could be for you.
If on the other hand you want to be around others; want the support from tutors and can travel then you’ll probably get more benefit from an attendance course.
